On 3 July 2012 Dutch national Willem Geertman was murdered by suspected mercenaries of the Philippine military. The 67-year-old development worker has become one of the most recent victims of extrajudicial killings that remain unabated in the Philippines. Target of these political assassinations are members of progressive organizations working among the poorest of the poor in the country. To call the attention of the international community on the worsening situation in the country, Filipino activists from the Philippines have been invited to the Netherlands for this forum.
Speakers include:
- Dr. Naty Castro and Glendhyl Malabanan, of the human rights organization Karapatan;
- Theresa Brittanico of Alay Bayan, Inc., the organization being ran by Geertman before his death;
- and Aurora Santiago, Geertman’s partner.
