International Commission of the NCPN

On March 8th 2026, the Jordanian authorities arrested Political Bureau members Omar Awad and Osama Zein Aldin of the Jordanian Communist Party, together with student activist Bahaa Hisham. According to statements from the party, the arrests were carried out without clear legal grounds.

The repression of our Jordanian comrades, that are at the forefront of the struggle against capitalism and the imperialist war that rages in the Middle East, represents a dangerous tendency of increased anticommunism and authoritarianism under capitalism. The targeting of communists cannot, of course, be understood simply as a legal issue. It reflects the conflict between the interests of the working class and political structures that defend the dominance of capital.

These developments are taking place at a time of growing inter-imperialist tensions, conflicts and wars in the region. Jordan hold strategic positions within the imperialist system and play an important role in representing the interests of US imperialism in the region.

We call for the immediate release of the detained comrades and express our solidarity with the communists and militants in Jordan who continue their struggle together with fellow workers against repression, exploitation, and injustice.

Solidarity with the Jordanian communists!
