The New Communist Party of the Netherlands (NCPN) condemns Israel’s brutal and reckless bombing of Lebanon, in what is a clear act of aggression against the people of Lebanon. This attack is yet another manifestation of the aggressive policy of the Israeli bourgeoisie, supported by the Dutch government and US-EU-NATO, aimed at subjugating the working class of Lebanon and the wider region, in the interests of Israeli and Euro-Atlantic monopolies.
We condemn the indiscriminate violence that has caused immense suffering among the working class and people of Lebanon-the people who bear the burden of this imperialist aggression. The destruction of infrastructure, in addition to the murder of innocent civilians, supposedly in the fight against ‘terrorism’, once again exposes the inhumanity of the Israeli regime, as well as its contempt for international law, confirming that international law is only selectively applied when it suits certain imperialists.
The Dutch government is complicit in the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people and Lebanon. It continues to supply military equipment-such as components for F-35s- to Israel and maintains ties with institutions in occupied West Bank territories in violation of UN agreements. In doing so, we hold our government jointly responsible for the continued risk of a wider war in the region and for the deaths of more than 186,000 Palestinians since 7 October 2023.
This aggression is part of a broader strategy aimed at maintaining and strengthening the influence of the Israeli bourgeoisie and Euro-Atlantic capital in Lebanon, Palestine and more broadly in the Middle East, and maintaining control over the region’s resources and people. It is an expression of the growing contradictions between different parts of the bourgeoisie, including the conflict between Israel and Iran, in which Israel is pushing for an open conflict with Iran.
We stand in solidarity with the working class and people of Lebanon and in particular with the Lebanese Communist Party. We call for an immediate halt to the bombing of Lebanon. We also call for an end to genocide against the Palestinian people, an end to the occupation of Palestine, and recognition of the right of Palestinians to self-determination, free from Israeli occupation and colonisation of Palestinian territory.
We call on the international working class to unite against this act of violence, to demand justice for the Lebanese people and working class, and to build a global movement for peace and socialism!
